U10-U14:
Waltham Youth Soccer has a Travel Team Program for youth 9 – 14 years of age. This program is a “Two Season”, Fall and Spring program that participates in the Middlesex Youth Soccer League. The Fall season is typically considered a practice season where as the Spring season is the cup season. Travel teams compete through out the Spring season for a chance to participate in either the Commissioners Cup or the Massachusetts Tournament Of Champions Cup. All travel teams are encouraged to participate in other tournaments as well during the course of the Fall and Spring Seasons.
New uniforms are given each Fall season.
Practices:
Travel Teams practice twice a week. Each team will have field space for either 1-1.5 hours per night between 5-7pm.
Games:
Regular games are scheduled for Saturday’s either at home on Veterans Fields or away in a city or town within the Middlesex League. Makeup games can be any night of the week and are up to the coaches and field coordinators of the Home team.
Seasons:
Fall and Spring seasons have a 9 or 10 game schedule. Fall season runs end Aug-Nov and Spring season runs end March-June.
U16-U19:
Waltham Youth Soccer also fields Travel Teams for youth 14 – 19 years of age that play in the Spring Season only. These are very competitive teams consisting of players from the Fall High School soccer teams as well as many other experienced players. These teams play at a “Host Venue” on Sunday’s with 4 – 6 other teams through out the Middlesex League. Younger players are encouraged to attend some of these games and experience the game being played at a higher level and learn from what they observe as the game is the best teacher.
U16-U19 get a uniform in the Spring.
Practices:
At this age group, it’s very hard to get numbers for a successful practice. It’s up to the coaches of these teams to decide how many nights a week to practice.
Games:
Games are played on Sunday’s in the Spring only. Mostly Sunday afternoon’s.
Seasons:
Spring Only. March-June. 7-9 Games per season.
Coaches:
Coaches for travel teams are experienced and hold at least a MA Youth Soccer G License. Coaches for travel teams are selected by the WYS Coaching Committee and assigned to a team based on their level of experience and degree of license.
Team Placement:
Players are selected to a team before the Fall Season by the assigned team coach’s based on their performance from an evaluation held in the Spring by a selected organization per WYS and past coach’s evaluations.
Travel teams are formed by skill levels. We can not guarantee players will be with siblings, friends, relatives or coaches. So if you request any of these it may not happen. We try to accommodate families as much as possible but sometimes it doesn’t work out.
